Published!

So… I am to be published. You can look for me in October of this year. I am very excited about it. BANR is going to publish 5 of my blog stories in one of their annual books titled The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2006. I am told that it is a big deal to get published in this book. You can look for my in the "Best American" front section of the book. I wonder if this will change anything about my job prospects… I guess I will count those chickens when they have hatched.

Take care,

Zachary

Yea, Zach! This is a big deal. Keep writing. Write down everything you remember and document this time of transition too. Record the silly details. Keep them. You've got a book in you.

Take care

Congratulations, Zach. I had not read your blog for over a year but came upon it this evening again. If ever there was a writer whose talents were going to be expressed in o-n-e way or another, I think it is you. Keep writing. Your heart already knows peace. All the best to your family.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences of war, of this war, so openly. Your bravery in speaking so frankly of your complex thoughts and emotions about your experiences as a U.S. Soldier in Iraq is as brave as your having faced the momentous physical and psychic perils of war.

From place to place on this earth, most of us are, for lack of any conceivable alternative, basically complacent pawns in a game of global and domestic political power that is far beyond any one of us average folks, and we can only do our best to stay true to our own hearts, to hold onto our inner light, our deepest core of humanity that connects us to all things in this Universe, which no one can take away from us no matter what else they can take away.

The past is done, and it is plain that you have done your best in that time and space. There is nothing more to ask of yourself in connection with the past, nothing but to make peace with it, to love yourself, and to make each new moment count.

Nothing we can ever do can change the events of the past; we can only change how we look at it, and we can look at it in a way that can give us the peace and strength to go on and make good in the world here and now. Bless you for your efforts in doing that. Peace be with you.
