Occupation of the Grass

How do you occupy a piece of land without causing some kind of strife? Take something as simple as standing on the grass. If you simply occupy your spot for a few minutes you have probably already killed at least a couple blades of grass. The patch of grass as a whole will survive no problem but if you do something more intrusive like place a child'’s swimming pool on the grass for a weekend you will find that you have almost killed an entire area of grass, however, with proper care you can still make that section live.

My point is that Iraq is like that patch of grass with our soldiers occupying it. We are beginning to get to the point of no return. I believe that a good sign of that point being reached is that we are on the brink of full scale civil war. Our occupation is killing Iraq and soon there will be no quick fixing of the damage we have caused there. Damage which is continuing to be done because we refuse to get off that piece of grass and as we stand there it dies more each day.

It will not be a quick end. It will be like an animal dying slowly of disease, an animal which doesn't even realize that it is going to die until it is too late to do anything but let it go. At which point do we come to our senses and stop killing Iraq with our helping efforts?

I have just finished reading "Night Draws Near". It was written by Anthony Shadid, who is a reporter for the Washington Post. He is an American of Lebanese Christian backgroundand is fluent in Arabic. He went to Baghdad just before the US invason and met many ordinary Iraqis. He has returned several times since. He was never embedded and apparently had little contact with other Americans and little contact with American soldiers. He had an Iraq government "guide" but he was able to work with him so he could meet with Iraqis in their homes for undisturbed conversations. His book has given me the best insight of anything I've read into the experiences and ideas of Iraqi people. I recommend it. It might help people as they consider what the future of American action in Iraq should be.

The answer is that "we are damned if we leave and damned if we stay"! This administration has placed the USA in a pickle and created a no win situation! Unfortunately we are STUCK!! They lied as to why we should go in their and they are still lying about the "supposed" progress that Iraq is making. A civil war is coming and we better stay out of the fray.

Anyone ever wonder why Saddam had to be as tough as he was? At least he was able to control his people and he kept terrorists out of his country as opposed to now where it is a breeding ground for them.

But as our leader would have us believe "we are winning the war on terror"........

What a joke!!
