It rained the other night. The dusty smell of the rain as it hit the ground reminded me of my Grandfather's farm. I remember the cold mornings after a rain when everything was quiet and it felt like the world was mine to explore.
I miss those days, seems like they were lifetimes ago. Someday I would like to have land, just to have it. My own place where I can be alone and still find adventure. I think that the kid in me would like that very much.

Heck... the adult in me would love it!
Hi -
Wishing you and your comrades all the best.
The desire for land ownership - do you remember the Chinese farmer in Pearl S. Buck's "The Good Earth" (Pulitzer Prizewinner about 65-years ago) - whose main objective in life was to buy more agricultural land? It's a cosmic preoccupation, and a good one.
Cheers,
TB
You are right, their is something about the smell of rain on land that is "homey", or seeing a fruit or vegetable grow in the garden (in my case) that brings the farmer out in you.
I hope you stay safe so that you can come home to see things grow with your family & share it with the kids (they love watching things grow from seeds).
I remember all that and what a sweet adventure it was and at 55 the experience is so vivid that just reading your blog I can smell the rain on the farm and the goodness it brings to life. You and your sister loved the adventure of the farm in Wyoming.
Me too. I grew up on a farm and loved the sound of rain on the tin roof of the barn, the smell of fresh hay in the hay loft....
I hope you own lots of land one day. I think you will.
I'm very glad to know there times you can enjoy good memories. Keep safe.
We like your ideas, and hope you are able to get home safely. This comment comes from a class at Marta Valle Secondary School in NYC. Peace out.
great website... here is a article I had to write for a class about the rain. check it out if you get a chance. it is quasi-army related.
